Amanuel MellesResearchers conducted a literature review on immigrant and refugee youth affected by war, trauma, and displacement. A major research theme that emerged is the impact of war on the mental health of children and youth including depression and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. The literature addresses the challenges of settling into a new country and the lack of culturally and socially sensitive services for immigrants and refugees. There is a gap in the literature regarding positive experiences and coping strategies of these children and youths. Researchers have created a research proposal to address this gap that will focus on the mental well-being and coping skills of immigrant and refugee youths affected by war.
