The impact of supportive housing: Community, social, economic and attitude changes

Principal Organizations:

Start Date:
2007

Members of the Dream Team live with mental illness or disability and advocate for secure, supportive housing. The Dream Team regularly encounters opposition to supportive housing, but has found little research that documents the impact of supportive housing on surrounding communities. The goals of this research is to identify how relationships between supportive housing residents and their communities change over time, and document how supportive housing influences the social and economic health of surrounding neighbourhoods. Using a peer research model, members of the Dream Team participate in project planning, interviewing, and data analysis. A 2004 Wellesley Central Enabling Award made it possible for the Dream Team Participatory Research Group to develop this project.
