The Toronto Recession Relief Coalition’s Hunger Inquiry has added its voice to the growing number across the country calling on federal Parliament to quickly pass Bill C-304 – legislation to create a national housing act for Canada. The coalition assembled an independent panel of community leaders – from Bruce McLeod, former Moderator of the United Church of Canada to Linda Chamberlain of the Dream Team – to hear from people who are going hungry to other experts on hunger in Toronto. The hunger panel’s recommendations received front page coverage in today’s Toronto Star. The Wellesley Institute’s Precarious Housing in Canada 2010 report sets out details of national housing needs and a pragmatic set of policy recommendations.
